diy art

We added several new rooms to our house during our recent renovations. As a result we've got a lot of empty wall space, and not much money left over for buying art. I've been thinking a lot about inexpensive ways to create my own art. Here are a few sources of inspiration...

Paint Chips: This lovely creation by "madebyanna" can be purchased on Etsy, or if you're feeling creative you could attempt your own variation on this clever theme.

Fabric: Real Simple provides instructions for how to create art from fabric, as pictured below.

Chalkboard Paint: This lovely interior shot by Andrea Raisfeld provides just one example. (Thanks to The Improvised Life for highlighting Andrea and her fabulous archive of interior photos!)

Recycling: We enjoy a good bottle of wine in our household. Quite often, in fact. :) Perhaps something like this cork case at Thirst Merchant (image via kim+jeffrey on Flickr) would work for us. We certainly have enough corks lying around, although they're surely not as notable as the corks featured in this display.
