diy art: ojos de dios

As I've already repeatedly mentioned, after a year of remodeling we've got no money left for real art. So I've been looking around for ideas for inexpensive do-it-yourself art that I can make to fill all those empty walls for a while. I remembered making God's Eyes (Ojos de Dios) as an 8-year-old girlscout, using fuzzy yarn and popsicle sticks, and I wondered what "grown-up" versions might exist out there...

Oh my goodness! I had no idea the kinds of elaborate creations I would find! Here are a few of the varied images I discovered:

Now, I have a great talent for coming up with many more exciting ideas than I can ever actually implement. And I don't have a great talent for anything crafty, except maybe wrapping a killer Christmas gift when I put my mind to it. But I figured I'm probably capable of a VERY simple God's Eye. (Don't expect anything nearly as elaborate as what's pictured above. Think two bamboo sticks and some yarn.) So here's one idea I've actually started putting in motion. Stay tuned for more...
