smart power outlets

I'm addicted to TED Talks (a series of short talks by luminaries in the worlds of technology, education, design, science, art, psychology, etc.) and so it's inevitable that a number of them are going to show up here.

This TED Talk by John La Grou is about a new invention called SafePlug. It's a "smart" electrical outlet that will help prevent fires and shocks. It's a simple but ingenious concept, and one that I hope will be in widespread use very soon.

  1. PMG. I totally love TED talks too. Did you see Jill Bolte talking about her stroke? or Barry Schwartz talkig about the paradox of choice? Those are two of my faves...

  3. Yes, I love Jill Bolte Taylor's My Stroke of Insight talk! (Although the human brain she brings onstage at one point creeps me out a little.) Haven't seen Barry Schwartz's talk yet, but I've read some of his writing on the topic.

My two favorites are Elizabeth Gilbert's talk on creativity and Aimee Mullins' talk about her prosthetic legs. Like Jill Bolte Taylor's, both of them are stirring and inspiring talks.
