Many of the great do-it-yourself art ideas I stumble upon for me remain just that -- ideas. But, as I mentioned yesterday, here's one I've actually started work on.
Provided the end result isn't totally humiliating, the completed God's Eye (or Ojo de Dios) will hang in the big empty space over our entry door. The foyer has a vaulted ceiling, a blue-green-gray slate tile floor (which you can see in the photo below), and creamy yellow walls, except for one wall of exposed brick. My hope is this will help unify the colors in the room (and the adjoining spaces), and also make the foyer feel a little less empty and cavernous.
As a sneak peek, here's the yarn I've picked out for the project:
I've also done a smaller test-run Ojo to help myself get the hang of this, but there's no WAY I'm posting a picture! Work has started on the big one, however, and I will post a photo when it's done and hung. Again, provided it's not embarrassing. Wish me luck!
BTW, if you're interested in trying your hand at this yourself, here are some fairly simple instructions courtesy of Thrifty Creativity. Or, for the really fancy mandala-style ones featured in yesterday's post, see these instructions from Jay Mohler.
